
The Audi A3 is a well-known compact luxury vehicle that has been built and sold by Audi since the 1996 model. Using the Volkswagen A platform, the Audi A3 shares its platform with the VW Golf. The A3 was originally introduced in European markets for the 1996 model year as a return to the lower market segments. Audi first made the A3 available in a three-door hatchback body that offered both front and four-wheel drive options. The A3 was equipped with a four-cylinder configuration and was transversally mounted. The Audi A3 was finally replaced in Europe in 2003 though the first generation continues to be sold in many countries. The engines offered during this time varied and included a variety of 1.6 to 1.9 liter engines that were gasoline, diesel, and turbo offering something for everyone.Audi introduced the second generation of the Audi A3 at the 2003 Frankfurt Motorshow. The high end of the new A3 is the 3.2 Quattro that boasts a 24 valve VR6 engine that provides a respectable torque and horsepower. A five-door variant of the A3 was introduced in the United States in the summer of 2005 with a turbocharged 2.0 liter FSI I4 engine and six speed manual transmission. Front wheel drive is currently available, though insider rumors suggest an all wheel drive model will be offered soon. The standard equipment for the A3 would be 17-inch wheels, 140-watt sound system including ten speakers, CD player, climate control, and electronic stabilization program. Options include colored wheels, upgraded suspension, leather seats, trip computer, panoramic sunroof, navigation system, as well as an upgrade Bose audio system. The Audi A3 offers everything in its standard model that people want and expect, but for those that want a bit more, Audi offers it, making the A3 the perfect vehicle for just about everyone.
